August 31, 1968 – Hideo Nomo is a former right-handed pitcher in Nippon Professional Baseball and Major League Baseball from Japan. An All-Star pitcher with two career no-hitters, Hideo Nomo was a successful hurler in both the Japanese leagues and the major leagues. Known for his exaggerated wind-up and delivery, Nomo pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Kansas City Royals from 1995 to 2008. While winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1995 with the Dodgers, Nomo led the NL in strikeouts, a feat he duplicated in the American League with the Red Sox in 2001.
