Cavaliers Lose Anderson Varejao

The Cavaliers’ center Anderson Varejao, who led the NBA in rebounding before he went down last month with what appeared to be nothing more than a bruised knee, remained hospitalized Monday with a blood clot in his lower right lung, a health scare that will force him to miss the rest of this season. The loss of the 6-foot-11 Varejao is a crushing blow to the young Cavs, who are just 10-32.

The Phoenix Suns have made Lindsey Hunter the team’s player development director there interim Head Coach. Hunter has 17 years of experience as an NBA player, but none as a coach. This comes two days after the Suns and Alvin Gentry parted ways in what the organization said was a mutual agreement.

Dwyane Wade

January 17, 1982 – Dwyane Tyrone Wade, Jr. nicknamed Flash or D-Wade, is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Miami Heat of the NBA. Named the 2006 Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated, Wade has established himself as one of the most well-known and popular players in the league. In his third season, Wade helped lead the Miami Heat to their first NBA championship in franchise history. He was named the 2006 NBA Finals MVP as he helped lead the Heat to a 4–2 series win over the Dallas Mavericks. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Wade led the United States Men’s Basketball team, commonly known as the “Redeem Team”, in scoring, as they captured gold medal honors in Beijing, China. In the 2008–09 season, Wade led the league in scoring and earned his first NBA scoring title. He was part of Miami’s second championship win in the 2012 NBA Finals, when Miami defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder.

James eclipsed the milestone Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors when he made a short jumper with 2:45 left in the second quarter to give him 20,001 career points. He needed 18 points entering the game to be the 38th NBA player to reach the mark.

LeBron James the youngest NBA player to score 20,000 career points – at 28 years, 17 days. The previous youngest to score 20,000 points was Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who got there when he was 29 years, 122 days old. James is also the 13th player with 20,000 points and 5,000 assists.

January 12, 1960 – Jacques Dominique Wilkins is a retired American professional basketball player who primarily played for the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. Wilkins was a nine-time NBA All-Star, and one of the best dunkers in NBA history, earning the nickname “The Human Highlight Film.” In 2006, Wilkins was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
